Lumbini Tour

Lumbini is situated about 350 km south west of Kathmandu. This place is famous because Lord Buddha was born here in 560 B.C. Lumbinī is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi District of Province No. 5 in Nepal. It is the place where, according to Buddhist tradition, Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama in 560 BCE. The actual location is marked by the poignant Maya Devi Temple, named after the Buddha’s mother. Its origins date back over two millennia.

An international archaeology team reports unearthing the exact location of Buddha’s birth, which is now visited yearly by hundreds of thousands of pilgrims every year.

Sites in the Garden include:

Mayadevi Temple
The temple of Mayadevi located close to the Ashoka pillar. The statue of Mayadevi is made out of the stone which is believed to be 2000 years old. People worship Mayadevi as well as Rupadevi here.

Puskar Pond
To the south of Mayadevi temple lies Puskar pond where Mayadevi took a bath before giving birth to Buddha. Buddha also took a purifying bath in the same pond.
